Pastor Adam's bio

I’m usually not much for bios especially the ones that are written in third person (Pastor Adam is…).  But figured that giving you a little information my might help you critique me a little better.

I was born and raised in beautiful country of northeastern North Carolina.  While this area is known as part of the “Bible belt” it always amazed me that Sunday morning was the one time during the week where the streets were almost void of cars.

I met my wonderful wife when we were just teenagers working summer jobs on the Outer Banks in NC.  However, we were nothing more than coworkers during all those years.  We reconnected in April of 1998 and were married January 23rd of the following year.  We have five wonderful children together.  Savannah was born in February of 2000 and is my oldest child and only daughter.  She is incredibly smart and a born leader.  Elijah is my oldest son who was born in March of 2002.  He continues to amaze me with his unstoppable energy and incredible memory.  We were again blessed in July of 2005 with our third child Ephraim.  He is the most contemplative of all the kids and looks like he could figure out any problem you throw at him.  Born in December of 2006, Solomon seems attached to Ephraim the most.  He is very interested in learning new things and is always asking “What’s that”, or as he puts it “ssddaatt”.  Our final son, Esaias, was born September of 2009 and is our only child to be born in Alaska.  He is a blessed addition to our family.

I enlisted in the Coast Guard December 19, 1995 and served almost three years on a ship out of VA.  My next two tours kept me in NC and I am currently stationed in Juneau, AK.

I lived most of my teenage life as a false convert, thinking that just because I repeated a little prayer I could call myself a Christian.   I showed no fruit of repentance and had no problem telling people that I believed in God all the while living a sinful life and blaspheming the Lord with my actions.  I came to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ one Sunday morning in 1998 at Great Hope Baptist Church in Coinjock, NC.  I had attended this church with my parents as a child and had recently started coming back.  It was over an hour drive from where I was stationed at the time but it made my father happy.  Little did I know that it was in that place that the Holy Spirit would convict me of my sins causing me to throw myself at the feet of the Savior.

Life did not get easier after becoming a Christian; in fact it got much harder.  Satan threw all kinds of temptations my way causing me to stumble and fall along my walk.  The Devil does not wait for a new believer to get grounded in their faith.  He starts attacking right from the moment of salvation.  But praise be to God that the Lord never left my side (Hebrews 13:5).

In August of 2000 my wife and I joined Salem Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, NC shortly after we were married.  I was stationed at the local Coast Guard unit and counted it a blessing to be around family and friends.  It was at Salem that the Lord first began convicting me of the need to share the Gospel and teach His word.  The church unfortunately faced some serious problems and split in the summer of 2002.

By this time I had been teaching Sunday School and was the Director of Evangelism, which meant leaving the church was no easy decision.  We visited several churches over the following weeks until a Pastor named Joey Hobbs invited me and a fellow brother in Christ to meet him during lunch.  Joey was an instrument of the Lord as my wife and I joined Fellowship Baptist Church in Elizabeth City in July of 2002.  The church had less than 20 members and we were by far the youngest couple there for a while.  However, within a few short years we were building new rooms, refurbishing the inside of the church, and had purchased a small building for the growing youth ministry.

I was ordained as a Deacon in August of 2002 and served as the Chairman for four years.  During this time Pastor Joey became, and remains to this day, a great friend and mentor.  I knew for several years that the Lord was calling me to the ministry but did not know what to do.  After relating this to Joey he just simply chuckled and said he had wondered why it took me so long to figure this out.

On July 31, 2006 I was officially ordained as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  I served as the Associate Pastor at Fellowship until June of the following year when I received unexpected military orders to transfer to Juneau, AK.

After arriving in Juneau on June 29th we started visiting churches the following Sunday.  We found a flier for an upcoming VBS and decided to visit the first church.  Without even mentioning my ordination someone told me that their current Pastor was retiring and their search committee had been looking for a new Pastor for several months.  Within the next few months my family and I found ourselves standing before the congregation as I was officially installed as the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church on September 2, 2007.  I faithfully served as their pastor until April 25, 2010.  I stepped down as Pastor at the time due to receiving military orders transferring my family and I back toNorth Carolina.

After returning to our hometown in Elizabeth City, NC we rejoined our home church, Fellowship Baptist.  Several months after I was installed as the Pastor of Evangelism and Education.

The Lord has truly been gracious to me.  I have a wonderful and loving wife who is an incredible support to my ministry and incredible mother to our children.  I have five beautiful children that the Lord has entrusted to the care of my wife and me.  I pastor a body of believers who seek the Lord and serve to glorify His name.  But above all these things, I serve a truly incredible God.  He pulled me from the depths of sin and redeemed me with His precious blood and His atoning work on the cross.

But enough about me, what’s your story?  Please check out the video “Another interview with God” and send me an email to let me know more about you.  Thanks for visiting the site!

May God alone receive the glory and the honor,

Pastor Adam
